Statement to users


EcoDNA and the University of Canberra will only collect, hold, use and disclose Personal Information to enable EcoDNA and the University to meet legal obligations and where it is reasonably necessary or related to one or more functions or activities. These include (but not limited to):

 

  • for students (includes past, current and future): to administer enquiries, admission, enrolment, academic progress, graduation, access to University facilities and services, and
  • for employees, affiliates, visitors and sub-contractors: to administer pay, entitlements, performance, research, access to University facilities and in relation to work health and safety matters.

 

Information we collect


When you visit our website, our internet service provider automatically records your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes:

  • your IP address
  • your top level domain name, such as .com, .net, .gov etc
  • the date and time of your visit to the site
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded
  • time spent on individual pages
  • time spent overall on the site
  • browser type and version
  • referring site such as a search engine.

 

Occasionally we use independent measurement methods to gather non-personal information regarding the visitors to our websites and apps on our behalf using cookies, log file data and code which is embedded on our website and apps.

These statistics tell us how our sites or apps are being used and help us improve to make them useful, informative and enjoyable.


No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect our service provider's logs.


EcoDNA collects individuals’ non-University of Canberra email address (and other contact details) when these are provided to the ecoDNA and the University of Canberra. This information will only be used to contact

individuals for administrative purposes related to their engagement with EcoDNA and the University of Canberra.

Entry to some of EcoDNA web services is restricted by user log-in protocols. EcoDNA requires individuals to use their log-in ID to access these pages to help EcoDNA keep the information accessible through these sites secure from unauthorised alteration, use or disclosure and to keep an auditable record of who has accessed this information.

 

Cookies


A cookie is a small piece of data that a website can transfer to your computer hard drive for record keeping. EcoDNA may use cookies to help you access and use our site and improve the service we offer. There is no attempt to identify you personally.
